100 Cold Wax Landscapes.

Another 100 Project

This 100 Project was created in the summer and fall of 2024 and explores the use of cold wax medium and oil paint to explore new ideas through abstracted landscapes. These paintings were created on Arches Oil Paper and measure 5x5 inches on a 6x6 page.

What is Cold Wax?

Cold Wax is semi-solid paste that is a mixture of a wax (typically beeswax) with a small amount of solvent (like Gamsol) that can be used with a variety of media, but is typically mixed with oil paint. It requires no heat or fusing to apply and it cures along with the oil paint to a very hard surface.

Cold Wax is like if encaustic and oil painting had an ooey, gooey baby. It’s luscious & textural, with so much potential.

Thanks to Patrons of this Project

Big thanks to Patrons to my Substack newsletter for supporting this project and following along. In the fall of 2024, the project was funded with the support of patrons, who followed along as I created the works. At the end of the project, the patrons helped choose the top 12 images for my 2025 Art Calendar and received a discount on the artwork when it was first available for sale.
